This course provides students with an introduction to algebra. Classes will cover basic algebra concepts, and lessons will gradually increase in difficulty. Topics include “Solving Algebraic Equations with Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, & Division,” “Solving Multi-Step Algebraic Equations,” and “Solving Algebraic Equations with Distributive Property.” Students will have the opportunity to practice the concepts presented in the lessons.

Towa Mikami
Towa is 13 years old and lives in New York. He’s been interested in math since he was eight and enjoys math and logic games, such as sudoku and chess. Towa loves working with numbers and strives to expand his mathematical expertise.

The content of this course was created in consultation with Deema Kahwash
Deema Kahwash holds a bachelor of science in pure mathematics and a minor in STEM teaching from the George Washington University. Deema has been part of the Pono community since 2018, teaching math. Learning math in a visual, concrete way at her local Montessori school at a young age piqued her interest in the subject, and made her certain about pursuing math education as an adult since she was 10-years old. Her dream is for everyone to see the beauty in math and consider themselves “a math person.”
